3 Questions & Answers to Help You Save
You probably make daily decisions about your money. Should you spend it now or save it so you can buy something in the future? It’s your choice—and when you’re faced with it, ask yourself these questions:
Q. Should I buy this?
A. Think it through. Do you really need the item—or do you just want it?
Q. Should I buy the famous brand or the store brand?
A. Because the store brand is often the same quality as the famous brand, buy the store brand if you can save money and get the same item. We often talk about store brands and the famous, national brands when we’re talking about groceries. But the same logic works for buying clothes and shoes. Do you really need the famous designer brands?
Q. If I buy this, how much longer will it take to reach my savings goal?
A. Any money that you spend now is money that you can’t also save. If you are saving for something (such as a gift or trip) and you spend the money that you should put in your savings, then a few things can happen, such as:
- You’ll need to save even more money each week to reach your goal.
- You’ll need to save the same amount each week—but for a longer period of time—to reach your goal.
- You won’t be able to save enough to reach your goal.
Before you buy anything, stop. Ask yourself these three questions. You just might find that it’s easier to save your money than you thought.
